Local Democrats plan inaugural ball at The Grad in SLO

Local Democrats are being invited to an inaugural ball Jan. 21 that will coincide with President Barack Obama’s inaugural ball.

The local event, sponsored by the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party, will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Graduate, 990 Industrial Way, San Luis Obispo.

Obama’s inaugural ball will be broadcast on large-screen televisions, while partygoers in San Luis Obispo enjoy dancing to DJ Malik Thorne. The event will include free appetizers and desserts, and a no-host bar.

“It’s a great way to celebrate without leaving home” says chairperson Pat Harris. “Inaugural tickets are hard to obtain — so it’s much easier to buy one for our local event.” She invited guests “to dress up and have themselves a ball.”

Tickets are $10 in advance, $5 for students, and $15 at the door.

Space is limited, and Harris says that four years ago the party sold out. Tickets are available online at http://actblue.com/page/inauguralball2013 and at the Democratic Party office at 1406 Broad St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
