Pay more, get less

Published: January 14, 2013

As a cyclist, I’m frustrated with the repaving that was done on Highway 1. This low-budget repair has made it much worse for biking. I fear that this is the start of a new normal in California: Pay more, get less.

With Sacramento overspending every year and barely able to pay its bills, we get low-budget services, if we get any at all. We have an aging infrastructure statewide, and the money to fix it has been given to special-interest groups or frittered away on boondoggles. Taxes may have gone up this year, but don’t expect services to improve. The state still has a drawer full of maxed-out credit cards — bonds that our kids will have to pay off.
