Published: January 10, 2013

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team withstood a furious comeback effort to take a 73-71 victory over visiting UC Davis at Mott Gym on Thursday after the Mustangs used a 13-0 first-half run to turn a four-point deficit into a double-digit halftime lead.

Brittany Woodard scored a career-high 21 points and secured two crucial offensive rebounds in the final minute to help seal the victory.

Former Righetti High standout Molly Schlemer had 12 points, Nikol Allison had eight points and nine rebounds and Ariana Elegado had 16 points and five assists for the Mustangs (8-6, 2-1 Big West Conference), who bucked a slow start to score 43 first-half points, just one off their season high.

Courtney French led the Aggies (5-8, 0-2 Big West) with 26 points, including 6 of 8 on 3-pointers, and Sydnee Fipps added 17 points and six rebounds before leaving the game with a leg injury late in the second half.
