Goats for litter

Published: January 4, 2013

I’m aware that law enforcement agencies at all levels are far too busy with space invaders, smugglers, marijuana and plastic bag users to bother with a common ordinary nuisance such as littering.

I only mention this because, to my knowledge, no ticket has been written in years for this very annoying minor offense, and the stuff is piling up. And heaven forbid anyone bend over to pick some up.

So, I’ve come up with a scheme for my hometown of Atascadero. Because of the unique rural nature of this fine city (it’s kind of a hick town), it would only seem like an acceptable idea to buy goats and let them run free all over the city. They’d eat the litter, create fertilizer, milk and meat sources (not necessarily in that order) and help keep weeds under control at the same time. That, of course, would save the city and its residents some of the annual expense of the late spring fire abatement chore!

We already have wild pigs, turkeys and deer running about, so it’s just one more critter out there. And goats aren’t nearly as picky in their diet as those wild things. And you can pet them.
