Officials with Cal Fire, Port San Luis Harbor Patrol and Pismo Beach police responded Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report of two surfers caught in a tide in the ocean north of the Pismo Beach Pier.

Cal Fire responded to the call about 2:15 p.m. to the ocean below Price Street and several hotels including Cottage Inn by the Sea.

One of the surfers was able to pull himself out of the water; the other was rescued by Port San Luis Harbor Patrol and taken to the harbor, according to Cal Fire.

Shortly after that incident, a kayaker was reported to be caught in kelp about a half-mile offshore. The kayaker was also picked up by the harbor patrol and taken to the harbor.
