The Tribune listed the plastic bag ban as one of the good events of 2012. There was a fuss over the initial inconvenience, and many of us still grumble or make excuses when we forget our reusable bags, but I am amazed how quickly SLO County residents (and our tourists) are getting used to it.
I volunteer at a busy thrift store where we provide used shopping bags upon request. Accepting a bag used to be automatic, but many more people are using their totes or tucking things under their arms!
Thanks to our local leaders and active citizens who made this happen, and kudos to all of us who are getting on board. As this trend spreads throughout the state and beyond, we have one more reason to be proud of SLO County.
