Perry Ford Lincoln in San Luis Obispo has added the Volkswagen nameplate to its lineup.
The dealership on Los Osos Valley Road finalized a franchise agreement with VW and received its first shipment of vehicles on Dec. 22, said Matt Meyer, general sales manager of Volkswagen for Perry.
San Luis Obispo customers used to find VWs at Kimball Motors, but that dealership lost the franchise last January because sales were not high enough for the manufacturers minimum. Kimball Motors then was sold to an auto executive from Southern California who has since renamed the dealership Alfano Motorcars.
Meyer said more than 100 vehicles were delivered to Perry for the grand opening of sales, and added all Volkswagen models will be available.
Meyer expects buyers will seek out the Volkswagen brand. A lot of Central Coast drivers realize the value of certain vehicle products, and Volkswagen is one of them, he said. And with pent-up demand with Volkswagen missing from San Luis Obispo for a good part of 2012 we will see the result of that.
The dealer has a new website for prospective buyers to review: www.perryvwslo.com.
