Update: The CHP has identified the vehicle that struck San Luis Obispo Police Sgt. Jeff Booth's vehicle as an early 2000s-model Chevrolet Silverado pickup with a ladder in the bed.

Update: San Luis Obispo Police Sgt. Jeff Booth was the person injured in this morning’s hit and run accident on northbound Highway 101.

He has only minor injuries, according to the police department.

At 6:15 a.m. Sgt. Booth was driving a marked police vehicle when he entered the highway at Prado Road. A vehicle traveling at an excessive speed ran into the back end of the police vehicle, causing Booth's car to slide off the roadway and into the center median, where he hit the guardrail, according to a news release.

The other driver fled the scene in an older white Chevrolet truck.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Gennuso at 593-3333.

The suspect was weaving all over the road, according to the CHP traffic website.
