Four Cougars scored in double figures, but costly turnovers led to the Cuesta College men’s basketball team’s 79-73 loss at the hands of San Jose City College on Friday at the Allan Hancock Tournament in Santa Maria.

Khirey Carson had 14 points, Oscar Pedroso had 11 and Jeremy Landengergue had 12 for the Cougars, who trailed 75-73 with one minute remaining in the game and turned the ball over with a chance to tie or take the lead.

Plamen Hristov added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Cuesta, which played its third consecutive game, all losses, without starting point guard Kenny Robinson. Robinson has a stress fracture in his foot.

“We’re really struggling without a point guard,” Cougar head coach Rusty Blair said. “I think our season is on the line until we can find someone back there.”

Cuesta faces Butte in the consolation semifinals at 1 p.m. today.
