The Pour House at Paso Robles Brewing Co. opened last month at 525 Pine St., joining a growing number of brew pubs in San Luis Obispo County.

The business plan was born soon after Shawn Copen’s bar, The Pour House, left its Vendels Circle location when Firestone Walker Brewing Co. bought the building for a recent expansion. Meanwhile, husband and wife Russ and Joann White sought to turn their home-brewing passion into an occupation. With their interests coming together, Copen and the Whites teamed up to become owners of The Pour House at Paso Robles Brewing Co.

The business operates in a 1,100-square-foot bar and 1,000-square-foot brewery, which features a three-barrel system, at a facility owned by the Whites and not far from the train station. Copen would not disclose how much he and the Whites have invested in turning the building into a bar and brewery.

PRBC began brewing its own beer in early December and hopes to have it on tap for its grand opening Jan. 19. For now, the bar’s 21 taps are pouring guest beers.

“Beer is starting to become more regionalized, and it’s becoming more localized,” Copen said recently.

The bar is open seven days a week, with live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Although the location does not have a full kitchen, one of the owners’ goals is to expand food options, such as offering pizzas from Paso Robles’ Gypsy Flame on Fridays. The brewpub’s owners are also working to get the patio area approved for drinking. But the main goal is to have “the brewery cranking it out,” Copen said.
