Unsafe seas push Virg's tournament to Friday

Special to The TribuneDecember 26, 2012

Unsafe seas caused the Coast Guard to close the entrance to Morro Bay Harbor last Friday. As a result, the Papa’s Jigs Tournament out of Virg’s Landing was postponed and rescheduled for Friday. Space is available.

The fare is: $89. Participants should be at Virg’s at 1169 Market Street by

5 a.m. The Princess will depart at 6 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. To enter the jackpot, there is a $21 entry fee. Jackpot winners will be determined by big fish caught on Papa's Jig, or Custom Craft swimbait or an Apex Diamond Jig.

The final two-day trip of the year departs at 3 p.m. on Saturday and returns Sunday afternoon. The Princess will be fishing at Pacific Valley and Point Lopez — where big lingcod and large red rockcod are present. The fare is $230.

Hangover Tournament

The Annual Hangover Bass Tournament will be held at Lake Nacimiento on New Year’s Day. Tournament Directors Ken Meeks and his son, Damon, have set the starting time at 8 a.m. Weigh-in will be at 3 p.m.

The tournament’s name is a misnomer because the participants know better than to be on the water in an impaired condition.

This fun event brings together a bunch of guys who enjoy competitive bass fishing. There is a $50 per-boat entry fee. The payoff is determined by the number of participants.

Arroyo Grande Bassmaster Elite pro Jared Lintner and partner Nick Salvucci have won the event two years in a row.

Virg’s Landing

Rockcod fishing for the year concludes at the end of Monday’s scheduled trip.

The year’s final crab and rockfish trip on Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. is full.

Space is available for the 6-to-2 rockcod trip on Saturday. The fare is $68.
