Cuesta Basketball: Cougars win third-place game in San Diego Mesa Tournament

The Cuesta College women’s basketball team defeated San Diego Mesa 62-41 in the third-place game of the San Diego Mesa Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (10-5) erased a 14-point, first-half deficit and held a 38-25 lead at the break. Cuesta then held San Diego Mesa to 16 points in the second half and cruised to victory.

Aria Johnson had 26 points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Cougars, who had a 36-20 rebounding advantage.

Alyssa Palma had 14 points, Courtney Chadwick had nine points and Miriam Zabinsky had 15 rebounds for Cuesta. Palma and Chadwick each recorded a game-high five assists.

Cuesta men lose to Lassen

Cuesta’s men’s basketball team lost to Lassen 101-93 in overtime on the road.

Plamen Hristov led Cuesta (11-6) with 32 points, going 13 for 19 from the floor, including three 3-pointers and a team-high 16 rebounds.

Oscar Pedroso had 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Cuesta, Khirey Carson scored 15, Jeremy Landenbergue had 12 and Paul Candiff scored 11 for Cuesta. Tournament.
