Letter to the Editor

Thanks, Cycle Santa

San Luis ObispoDecember 21, 2012

A man known only as “Cycle Santa” surprised my 12-year-old son, Owen, and another child with a brand new bike, donated through Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County.

My son’s old bike was broken beyond repair. He had grown out of the old bike, too. I did not know when I would be able to get him another bike. Thanks to Cycle Santa, my son will be surprised with a beautiful bike, helmet, lock, bell and lights on Christmas morning.

He will use his new bike to ride to school and around town. He plays too many video games. I am happy, because his new bike will allow him to go outside, enjoy fresh air, exercise and play fewer video games. Most importantly, my son will use his bike to explore the county with his Big Brother.

I am grateful for Big Brothers Big Sisters because they have given us a fantastic, volunteer Big Brother, who is now Owen’s good friend. They have also given us so many more things that I never expected — like a new bike, just in time for Christmas.

Thank you, Cycle Santa, and thank you, Big Brothers Big Sisters.
