Prep Roundup: Stewart leads Templeton to LPL girls basketball win

Mari Stewart scored a game-high 24 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Templeton High girls basketball team to a 67-34 victory over Santa Maria on Thursday.

Marissa Torres and Autumn Russell scored 12 apiece for the Eagles (9-1, 2-0 Los Padres League), and Russell had six assists.

Miranda Beaz scored nine points for Santa Maria.

Arroyo Grande 52, Morningside 21

Olivia Galindo led the Eagles (6-5) with 10 points in their opening game of the Burroughs Tournament in Burbank. 

Alaina Hogeboom had eight points, and Megan McGuigan and Crysta Coomer each had six points.  

Morro Bay 66, Cabrillo 18

The Pirates (8-3, 2-0 LPL) jumped out to a 32-7 lead at halftime. 

Hannah Gilbert had a game-high 18 points, and Caitlyn Cowardin had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Pirates.

Sierra Schwellenbach had 11 points and six assists, and Jerrica Crosby had six points and 10 rebounds for Morro Bay.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LaVerne Lutheran 59, San Luis Obispo 36

Blake Shapazian had 15 points, but the Tigers (5-6) dropped their opening game of the Mission Prep Christmas Classic.

Alpha Ndaw had 15 points for the Vikings, who led 37- 19 at halftime. Joe Rushing had 12 points.

Santa Maria 50, Templeton 48

Andy Garretson had a game-high 20 points, but the Eagles (4-5, 0-2 LPL) lost after missing two shots from inside the paint in the closing seconds.

Jackson Wheeler had 10 points, and Aiden Sarbeck added seven for Templeton.

Cabrillo 78, Morro Bay 57

Luke Munds scored 21 points, and Zach Smith had 16 for the Pirates (5-6, 

1-1 LPL) in their home loss.

Santa Ynez 50, Nipomo 44

Kaileb Mendez had a game-high 20 points and had seven rebounds, but the Titans (1-10) lost their LPL opener.

Freddy Ruiz was the only other Titan in double-digit  scoring with 15. 

Coast Union 56, King City 47

The Broncos (6-6) outscored the Mustangs 20-8 in the fourth quarter to win on the road.

Angel Avina led all scorers with 15 points, and Quentin Raethke had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Coast Union.

BOYS SOCCER

Arroyo Grande 1, North Torrance 1 (5-4 penalty kicks)

The Eagles (6-5) advanced in the South Bay Classic Tournament after defeating the Saxons with a tiebreaking penalty kick.

Alexander Tseegai scored for Arroyo Grande in the second half to tie it at 1-1.

North Torrance missed its last penalty kick, and Tseegai put the final goal in the net for Arroyo Grande for the win.

Nipomo 3, Templeton 2

Caleb Dome scored twice for the Titans in their win over the Eagles at home. Dome also assisted a third goal by Jonathan Gomez. Aaron Robles and Chase Streiff each had one assist for Nipomo (6-7-2, 1-2 LPL).

Afrain Gomez scored for Templeton off an assist by Jeffrey Hammond. Austin Alarcon scored once, 

and goalkeeper Tyrus Yamagata had seven saves in goal for the Eagles (6-7-2, 0-3 LPL).

Santa Ynez 3, Morro Bay 1

Holt Alden scored the only Morro Bay goal off an assist by Jackson Chavez in its loss to Santa Ynez. 

Jeremy Neilson had 14 saves in goal for Morro Bay (9-4-1, 2-1 LPL).

GIRLS SOCCER

Nipomo 3, Templeton 0

Cristina Ozzimo had two goals and an assist for the Titans in their win over the Eagles (3-6, 2-1 LPL) on the road. 

Denise Delmontes scored once, and Kristie Chavez had one assist for Nipomo (5-4-2, 3-0).

Santa Ynez 8, Morro Bay 0

Morro Bay (2-10, 0-3 LPL) fell to Santa Ynez at home.
