Car crashes into San Luis Obispo liquor store

Racks and racks of wine were destroyed at Laurel Lane Liquors, at 1291 Laurel Lane in San Luis Obispo, when a driver allegedly ran a stop sign on Augusta Street and smashed into the building around 10:15 Thursday morning.

According to employee Gary Wertz, it’s too early to determine actual monetary damages; employees were waiting for their insurance adjuster to arrive and make a determination.

Police and fire department personnel responded to the scene, as did the city building inspector, who determined that although inventory was destroyed, the store didn’t sustain structural damage and could remain open for business.

The driver was taken to French Hospital Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Police were unavailable to say whether the driver would be placed under arrest.
