Memorials for school shooting victims planned in SLO

Published: December 19, 2012

A candlelight vigil for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza, organizers have told The Tribune.

Three local mothers who are “saddened and appalled” about the recent shooting are inviting the community to show its support, as well to sign a petition urging meaningful gun control, Jacqueline Whitesides and Patti Salas wrote in an email to The Tribune.

“We are mothers against gun violence and automatic weapons that lead to extreme violence,” they said.

A local church is also planning an opportunity for residents of San Luis Obispo County to come together to remember those who have died.

A non-denominational service will be held Friday, Dec. 21, at noon at First Presbyterian Church, 981 Marsh St., San Luis Obispo. Everyone is welcome.

The memorial is sponsored by People of Faith for Justice and the San Luis Obispo Ministerial Association.

For more information call the Rev. Caroline Hall at 704-5826.
