The time has come to disband the NRA, declare all guns illegal except in the hands of sworn officers or the military. Hunters don’t need guns to kill — they can buy dinner at Vons.

Hunting is only a sport if both sides are armed. People who need to kill other people will have to resort to means other than guns. How far would the Connecticut elementary school shooter have gotten had he had to rely on hand-to-hand combat? Or even if he had carried a knife?

Our founding fathers did not have this in mind when they wrote that phrase “the right to bear arms.” I’m certain that they meant one nation had a right to protect itself against an aggressor nation, not a 5-year-old.
