Those who oppose regulating ownership of guns often quote the Second Amendment’s clause, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
But the Second Amendment begins with “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State.” So where is the well-regulated militia? Certainly not in the homes of individuals who have multiple-round assault guns that were unimaginable at the time our founding fathers wrote the language.
That very important first part of the Second Amendment is seldom included in arguments that advocate the right of individuals to own any and all guns desired.
