Cuesta men's basketball team reaches championship game

The Cuesta College men’s basketball team survived a 16-0 second-half run from Delta and pulled away late in a 75-55 semifinal victory over the host team at the San Juaquin Delta Tournament in Stockton on Saturday.

Delta, which trailed 40-25 at the half, cut the deficit to 48-44 before the Cougars (11-4) took control.

Visil Bachev led Cuesta with 16 points, and Jeremy Landenbergue had 15 points and eight rebounds.

Oscar Pedroso had nine points and eight rebounds, and Plamen Hristov had seven points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who outrebounded Delta 42-26.

Cuesta will face No. 1-ranked San Francisco City (13-0) in the championship game at 4 p.m. today.

Cuesta women win at tournament

Alyssa Palma had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and the Cuesta women’s basketball team beat Palomar 72-62 in a consolation game at the 

Orange Coast Tournament despite blowing a 17-point halftime lead.

Leading 45-28 at the half, Cuesta was held scoreless for nine straight minutes in the second half before rallying from a six-point deficit to win.

Aria Johnson had 18 points and nine rebounds, Makenzie Brewster had 10 points, and Courtney Chadwick had seven points and four assists for the Cougars, who play Irvine Valley at noon today for the consolation championship.
