Cuesta basketball teams split in tournaments

The Cuesta College men's basketball team ran past Lassen 97-71 in an opening-round game of the San Joaquin Delta Tournament in Stockton on Friday.

Oscar Pedroso had 20 points, Paul Candill had 15, and Cuesta (10-4) upset the state's ninth-ranked team.

Khirey Carson had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Kenny Robinson added 10 points and eight assists for Cuesta, which will face host team Delta at 7 tonight in the semifinals. 


Orange Coast 75, Cuesta 69

Courtney Chadwick had 24 points, and Aria Johnson had 18 points and 10 rebounds, but the Cougars (7-3) fell in their first game at  the Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic in Costa Mesa.

Cuesta held a 33-32 lead at halftime.

Miriam Zabinsky had nine points and four assists, and Mackenzie Brewster had eight points and seven rebounds for the Cougars, who play Palomar today at 3 p.m. in the consolation semifinals.
