A 28-year-old San Miguel man was killed Monday evening in a single-car rollover accident in the North County.

Fernando V. Santiago was traveling alone southbound on Highway 101 north of San Marcos Road at 10:05 p.m. in a 1996 Toyota 4Runner when the left tires of the car left the roadway onto the dirt center median, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Santiago then overcorrected to the right, causing the car to skid across the southbound lanes of the highway and onto the asphalt shoulder where it rolled over twice, ejecting the driver onto the asphalt. The car eventually came to rest on its wheels facing north in the southbound slow lane. According to the CHP, Santiago was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was a factor in the crash.
