A pedestrian who was hit by a car in Cayucos on Saturday evening has died, and another is in critical condition, a spokesperson for Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo confirmed Sunday.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. Saturday on Ocean Avenue, south of 7th street. A vehicle operated by 32-year-old Rhiannon Carroll of San Luis Obispo struck 87-year-old Manualo Karako and 66-year-old Sandra Karako, both of San Luis Obispo, as they attempted to cross from the east to the west side of Ocean Avenue, according to a news release by the CHP.

The victims were transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where Manualo Karako has since died, and Sandra Karako is listed in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered a factor in the collision, police said. Carroll remained at the scene waiting for emergency personnel to arrive and was not taken into custody.
