Weather forecast for this weekend looking sunny

San Luis Obispo - The TribuneDecember 7, 2012

Beautiful weather is forecast across San Luis Obispo County this weekend, as high pressure off the coast and over Utah will combine to block any storms from coming here, said John Lindsey, PG&E meteorologist with decades of forecasting experience on the Central Coast.

Far from being stormy, the Central Coast this weekend will be exceptionally clear as the high pressure causes winds to blow from the east toward the ocean. That will push any fog or other clouds far out to sea.

Daytime highs will be in the 70s Saturday and Sunday in San Luis Obispo and the 60s in the North County. Overnight lows will be mild, falling into the 30s in Paso Robles and the 40s in coastal valleys.

By Monday, the high in San Luis Obispo could be near 80 degrees, Lindsey said.

Strong Santa Ana winds are forecast for areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Sunday and Monday, and the National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for those regions. The NWS also notes the air will be drier than normal, raising concerns for possible fire danger.

For the Central Coast, winds will shift more from the northwest on Wednesday, bringing cooler air from the ocean toward the land, Lindsey said. Temperatures will drop further into the end of next week, as a new storm reaches Northern California.

Highs at the end of next week will be in the 60s in San Luis Obispo and 50s in the North County.

Lindsey does not expect rain to get to the Central Coast, but the National Weather Service thinks there is a chance of rain reaching this far south. The NWS also notes expected cooler temperatures, with the snow level dropping to 4,500 feet by Friday.
