The Grover Beach City Council will hold a special meeting today to seat its first-ever directly elected female mayor and newly elected council members.

Debbie Peterson, who was first elected to the council in 2008, will be sworn into a two-year mayoral term.

Incumbent Councilwoman Karen Bright and Jeff Lee, who chaired the city’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission, will be sworn into four-year council terms.

Peterson will then make a presentation to Mayor John Shoals, who is ending his tenure on the council after 10 years.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at 154 S. Eighth St. in Grover Beach.
