There is enough evidence to pursue assault and battery charges against a former Cal Poly and Oakland Raiders football coach, a San Luis Obispo Superior Court judge determined Wednesday.

 Randy Hanson, a former defensive back coach for Cal Poly, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing.

According to police reports, a heavily  intoxicated Hanson had been partying in Pismo Beach Aug. 3 when he struck a man in the face with a beer bottle.The alleged victim – who did not know Hanson before that night -- suffered a broken nose, according to police reports.

 Hanson resigned from his Cal Poly position 11 days after his arrest.

 His next hearing has been set for Jan. 16.
