Morro Bay police are investigating an attempted burglary early Tuesday at Morro Bay Chevron on Main Street.

At 3:21 a.m., police responded to an audible alarm at the gas station. They found fresh pry marks on a door at the back of the business and a tool lying on the ground, according to a news release.

A witness reported hearing the alarm and then seeing two male suspects flee the scene on foot. They were last seen running north on Sunset Avenue from Highway 41.

Investigating officers believe the business’s burglar alarm may have helped prevent the crime from being completed. They also say that residents reporting suspicious activity is crucial to preventing and solving crimes.
