One month after the election, the consensus seems to be that Obama won because he polled better with non-white voters. However, that is not the whole story.
I did some research, and saw that of the 10 states with the highest percentage of college graduates, Obama won every one but one (North Dakota). Of the states with the lowest percentage of college graduates, Romney won all but one (Nevada).
The average of the percentage of non-white voters in the top nine states was 17 percent. The average of the percentage of non-white voters in the bottom nine states was 22 percent.
The bottom line: Obama won, not so much because he polled well with non-whites, but because enough well-educated voters saw through the false assumptions and misinformation that comprised so much of Romney’s campaign.
