Letter to the Editor

Be patient, GOP

Published: December 3, 2012

There’s been a lot of crowing the last several weeks by Democratic pundits, all cock-a-doodling over the November election losses by the Republicans. They’re boasting a so-called “new-normal” liberal Democratic electorate, which re-elected the Democrats and, they believe, will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Even some Republicans believe it.

They all say that the Republicans must “reform” or become politically extinct (as if the Democrats care). Does this mean Republicans need to become more liberal than the liberal Democrats themselves to be electable by this “new normal” entitlement-seeking electorate?

No. Rather than “reform” and get into a bidding war with the liberals, they simply need to stand by their conservative values and wait.

The Democrats will overreach, as they usually do. Soon their vote-buying entitlements will need massive amounts of money to keep going. Having already plunged this country into record debt, the Democrats will have little choice but to raise taxes for everyone, not just the “rich,” or reduce or end the entitlements for lack of funding.

When this happens, this “new-normal” Democratic electorate, now dis-entitled and paying taxes, will soon fade away.
