The California Mid-State Fair’s Route 66 theme this past summer took international honors, fair officials said.

The International Association of Fairs and Expositions selected the Paso Robles-based fair’s theme, “The Great American Road Trip,” as the top one among fairs in 2012.

The concept, featuring fair mascot character Paso Pete and his friends along Route 66, was designed with Cal Poly’s Advanced Fair Management class.
