SLO police say burglary ring may be behind rash of laptop thefts near Cal Poly

15 MacBook Pro laptops have been reported missing in a few days

Police suspect an organized ring may be behind the theft of 15 laptop computers since Friday in residences surrounding Cal Poly’s campus.

This rash of burglaries stands out from others that occur from time to time throughout the city, police say, because MacBook laptops seem to be the intended target, while other valuable items are not taken or even disturbed, according to a recent news release by the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Since early evening Friday, police have taken five burglary reports, in which a total of 15 MacBook Pro laptop computers were reported taken from residences in the following locations: the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Foothill Boulevard; the 0-100 block of Hathway Avenue; and the 300 block of Buena Vista Avenue.
