Arroyo Grande boys soccer team takes third at Cats and Hounds

Nicholas Valverde scored one goal for the Arroyo Grande boys soccer team in its 3-1 loss to Pioneer Valley in a semifinal match at the Cats and Hounds Tournament on Saturday.

The Eagles (3-2-1) later defeated Atascadero 1-0 for third place with a goal from Alexander Tseegai.

Goalkeeper Aaron Friedman had 10 saves in the tournament for Arroyo Grande.

San Luis Obispo cruised by Orcutt Academy in its first game, winning 5-0.

Chris Toh had two goals and Alex Maier, Peter Delkeskamp and Travis Caldwell all scored one. Mo Morales had two assists and Delkeskamp had one. Michael Lambert had three saves.

In their second game, the Tigers (3-2-1) fell to Dos Pueblos 3-1. Caldwell scored the Tigers’ only goal and was assisted by Ty Cooper. Lambert made seven saves, as San Luis Obispo finished the tournament in sixth place.

Morro Bay lost its first game against Monrovia 3-1. Jackson Chavez scored and Holt Alden assisted.

The Pirates won their second game 5-4 in penalty kicks after finishing regulation in a 2-2 tie. Morro Bay trailed 2-0 at halftime until Conner Straton and Daniel ZanBuerden scored, both of which were assisted by Grant Johnson.

Mission Prep (0-4-1) and Nipomo tied 1-1, with Tony Arena scoring the only goal for the Royals. Peter Bertelsen had five saves in goal for Mission Prep.

Stephen Orradre scored one goal in the Royals 3-1 loss to Lompoc.
