Cuesta beats Sierra to win Phillips 66 Tournament

Freshman Miriam Zabinsky scored 27 points, was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line and had six rebounds and four assists as the Cuesta women's basketball team (5-1) won the Phillips 66 Tournament at Cuesta with an 86-75 victory Sierra.

Aria Johnson added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Cuesta and was named to the all-tournament team along with Zabinsky, who was named tournament MVP.

“We had a really good, successful weekend here, which is nice to see,” Cougars head coach Ron Barba said. “We saw different kids step up every night.”

Courtney Chadwick had 18 points and Alyssa Palma added 15 for Cuesta.

The Cougars were 28 of 39 from the free-throw line and 27 of 52 from the field.

Sierra was 9 of 38 from the 3-point line, including 4 of 17 from Kirstie Williams, and finished 26 of 88 from the field in the loss.
