SLO High girls water polo team earns split at Newbury Park tournament

Emma Tietje had two goals to lead San Luis Obispo to a 5-3 victory against Bishop Alemany in their first game of the Newbury Park tournament. In their second game, the Tigers lost 13-1 to Westlake with their one goal by Andrea Reynolds.

Atascadero lost 15-6 to Harvard Westlake in their first game of the tournament, but then beat Moorpark 10-6.

Rachel Gruetzmacher had five goals on the day and Kaden McQuitty, Kylie Ferree, Claire Leong and Emma Seitzer all had two goals for the Greyhounds.

Goalie Lauren Giggy had 15 saves on the day for Atascadero, who will play two teams from the consolation pool tomorrow.

Paso Robles split its two games, losing to Louisville 6-5 before rebounding and beat Chadwick 6-4.
Louisville scored with 2:43 to go in the game to break the 5-5 tie. Shannon Rees scored two goals for the Bearcats and Rebecca Tobey, Erika Smeltzer, and Zoe Zepp each netted one. Marti Rae Grois had 12 saves.

In the second game, Grois made 12 saves again to improve Paso Robles’ record to 3-1 on the season. Tobey had two goals and Kylie Pugh, Michaela Iunker, Smeltzer, and Rees each had one goal.
