As Congress addresses the issue of the fiscal cliff, I keep hearing about changes to entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare.
These are not entitlements they are earned benefits. A very great majority of people receiving Social Security and Medicare worked many years and had money withheld from their paychecks in order to earn these benefits.
Calling them entitlements is double speak and simply makes it easier to think about denying them to the people who earned them. I wish the media would pay closer attention and point out when the politicians are trying to trick us with clever language.
