Democrats nationwide are celebrating the reelection of Barack Obama, who fought back billions in attack ads to prevail. And, while I agree that Mitt Romney would have been a disastrous President, I am not one of the celebrants. The reason? The results of this election will slow, but make no appreciable dent in, this country’s headlong descent into fascism. Don’t believe me?

Google “14 Points of Fascism,” and tell me which of the 14 points President Obama has made any attempt to turn back. This is the president who made corporatists the likes of Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, and former GE outsourcer-in-chief Jeffrey Immelt his key economic “advisors”; has authorized drone strikes on civilians; has an extra-judicial “hit list” that includes American citizens; continues to back nuclear energy and deep-water drilling in the Gulf; has already prosecuted more whistleblowers than all previous presidents combined; and, has increased surveillance of law-abiding American citizens.

No, this is no victory for progressives, only a pyrrhic triumph of style over substance.
