Less than a week after he was arrested on suspicion of grabbing a 9-year-old girl as she Rollerbladed in San Luis Obispo, a man pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor battery.
Jaime Hernandez, 44, described as a transient, was sentenced to the maximum penalty of six months in County Jail by Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Duffy.
The girl was waiting to cross Broad Street at South Street with her mother and 6-year-old sibling the day before Thanksgiving when Hernandez approached from behind, grabbed her belt loop and pulled her as he continued to walk. The girl spun around slightly but was able to maintain her balance, pull away and leave the curb with her family.
The girls mother reported the incident at a nearby fire department, and police recognized the description of Hernandez, with whom they had had contact earlier that day.
Hernandez was on parole at the time for another battery conviction.
