Cal Poly's Royer wins Big West weekly award

Senior Dylan Royer was named the Big West Conference men’s basketball player of the week Monday after making eight 3-pointers in two games, including six in the Mustangs’ upset win Sunday over nationally ranked UCLA.

The 6-foot-1 forward knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers as the Mustangs became the first team to defeat the Bruins at the new Pauley Pavilion.

Royer’s 18 points tied his career-high in the 70-68 win. He also tallied three rebounds, two steals and an assist in 29 minutes.

Royer also notched double figures in scoring in Cal Poly’s 76-67 home loss to Fresno State on Monday. He tallied 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor, including 2 of 6 from 3-point range.
