Fire at Cambria Pines Lodge burns pool building

No one was hurt when fire destroyed a major chunk of the old indoor pool building at Cambria Pines Lodge on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 12:12 p.m. and knocked down by 12:33, a Cal Fire spokesperson said. Firefighters responding from the Cambria Fire Department station nearby were joined by Cal Fire units from Cambria and Cayucos.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. No estimate of damage was immediately available.

The pool building was built in the 1960s. That pool was replaced in 2006 by an outdoor pool between the old pool building and the main lodge, which was itself rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire 1991.

The pool house was previously damaged in a fire in 2008 caused by papers stored too closely to a light bulb.

Another detached structure at the lodge housing a beauty salon and offices was destroyed by a fire in 2003 caused by a heater that had been left on too long.
