Find perspective

Los OsosNovember 16, 2012

When working with children, I’ve learned that sometimes if you just ignore whining it will go away. Sad to say, this is not the case with those upset with the new bag law.

There are people trying to get their lives back after hurricane Sandy, a looming fiscal cliff, war in the Mideast, a garbage patch (filled with plastic) larger than the state of Texas floating in the middle of the Pacific, and people are whining about not being given free bags?

Get a little perspective; this is a matter of convenience! Los Angeles, San Francisco and many more cities and counties across the nation have adopted this responsible attitude and more are planning to. You might as well get used to it. Just suck it up and buy a few bags. Keep them in your car or just pay a dime for a paper one. It’s not that hard.

And if you are one of those people who feels this ban is a “tiny ineffectual symbol” of reducing plastic pollution, remember what the Buddha said: “Do not overlook tiny good actions, thinking they are of no benefit; even tiny drops of water in the end will fill a huge vessel.”
