A wet weekend is expected across San Luis Obispo County as a couple of storm systems arrive, with the potential to bring an inch or more of rain, forecasters say.

John Lindsey, a PG&E meteorologist who has been forecasting Central Coast weather for more than two decades, said a low-pressure system about 250 miles west of the county will slowly move toward the coast.

Rain showers and strong winds will begin Friday, and then showers will turn to steady rain by Friday night when the cold front passes over the region.

“It looks pretty promising,” Lindsey said of the storm arriving Friday. 

He expects this first storm to generate an inch of rain and noted that the last time such an amount fell along the coast was April 11.

The storm’s winds will be gusty, blowing near 40 mph along the immediate coastline. Temperatures will not be very low, with highs today expected to be in the mid- to high 60s in San Luis Obispo.

A second storm dropping down the West Coast from Alaska will merge with the first storm Saturday night and generate showers into Monday. 

An additional half inch of rain is possible, Lindsey said.

Daytime highs this weekend will remain in the 60s, with lows in the 50s.

Lindsey said sunny skies should return Tuesday and that the Thanksgiving holiday looks to be clear and warmer.
