The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold two public meetings in San Luis Obispo Nov. 28 to discuss seismic issues and other topics relating to Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.

One session will run from 1 to 3 p.m. and the second will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Both will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel.

Both sessions will also feature a panel of experts that can answer questions and take public comment about a recently released research letter from the NRC about the Shoreline earthquake fault discovered just offshore of the nuclear plant in 2008.

In the letter, the NRC concludes that the strongest ground motions the Shoreline fault could generate fall within the existing plant design limits from the larger Hosgri fault, which lies farther offshore of the plant.

NRC officials will also discuss general plant performance issues at Diablo Canyon. The meetings will be videotaped and broadcast at a later date on the San Luis Obispo County government cable access channel.
