UPDATE 12:55 p.m. Wednesday: An electrical problem caused a fire Monday night that damaged a laundry building at the San Luis Obispo County Jail's Honor Farm facility off Highway 1, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday. No injuries were reported.
Around 8:20 p.m. Monday, correctional deputies responded to the building which houses one of the laundry facilities, various supplies and a workshop after a fire alarm went off. They reported seeing "the windows to the doors blow out and flames and smoke coming from the building," the news release says. Deputies used a fire hose to suppress the fire until firefighters arrived and extinguished it, authorities said.
The Honor Farm facility is a separate area of the jail for low-risk prisoners.
