UPDATE: 23-year-old woman arrested in fatal hit-and-run in Nipomo »

UPDATE 4:26 p.m. Tuesday: The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run in Nipomo on Monday as Christopher J. Tietjen, 24, of Nipomo.

The CHP was called to the scene a few minutes before noon Monday, but authorities believe Tietjen may have been struck earlier, possibly the preceding day.

Physical evidence at the scene indicates that a vehicle, believed to be a light green 2004-09 Toyota Prius, was traveling south on North Thompson Road near Sheehy Road at an unknown speed, according to the CHP.

Tietjen was walking on the west shoulder when the Toyota left the roadway and struck him, killing him, authorities said. The driver fled the scene.

The death itself is exacerbated by the possibility that Tietjen lay injured for hours before anyone called authorities. Tietjen’s body was found off the road, partially hidden by grass and brush.

UPDATE 1:57 p.m. Tuesday: A 24-year old Nipomo man was the victim of what law enforcement is investigating as a hit-and-run in Nipomo, according to authorities. His name has not yet been released.

CHP Officer J.W. Townsen said that officers are following several leads but would not say whether they had identified a suspect.

Investigators now say that the collision may have happened sometime after dusk on Sunday or Monday morning.

Investigators determined a light green Toyota Prius, model year 2004-09, was involved in the hit-and-run by evidence left at the scene, Townsen said.

Original story: The CHP was searching Monday for information on a fatal hit-and-run in Nipomo.

The Sheriff’s Office got a call at 11 a.m. about a possible injured or intoxicated person on Thompson Avenue near Sheehy Road in Nipomo, Sgt. Steve Odom said. He said deputies found a body off the road partially hidden by grass and brush. It was not clear when the incident occurred, he said.

A CHP news release indicated that a pedestrian was on the right shoulder of the roadway when a light green Toyota Prius, model year 2004-09, left the roadway and struck the person. The Prius was southbound on Thompson Avenue at the time of the accident.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
