Cal Poly senior men’s tennis player Andre Dome won the individual title in the 56th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship on Sunday.

Dome, a former Arroyo Grande High standout, beat Clarke Spinosa of the University of San Diego in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA in the final match.

The top-seeded Dome, ranked No. 20 in the preseason ITA collegiate rankings, advanced to the championship by defeating Guy Gibilato of UC San Diego, Karue Sell of UCLA, Frederik Wilkens of Azusa Pacific and Thibaut Visy of San Diego.

Dome’s Mustangs teammate Marco Comuzzo won the final of the Main Draw’s Back Draw bracket, winning his semifinal when Francis Sargeant of BYU retired in the third set. Comuzzo’s final opponent, Jochem Hoefnagels of Azusa Pacific, had an emergency withdrawal, according to official results.

As a doubles tandem, Comuzzo and Dome fell in the quarterfinals 8-4 to Spinosa and Visy, who went on to win the doubles title.

COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL

44th Annual Rabobank Basketball Tournament at Cuesta

Cuesta College 58-54 beat College of the Sequoias 58-54 to win the Cougars’ own tournament championship.

All-tournament performer Paul Candiff had 18 points for Cuesta, tournament MVP Kenny Robinson had two assists and 10 points and Mohamed Ali Ben Ammar had seven rebounds.

Sequoias forward Bill Borekambi had 13 rebounds and 15 points, and former Atascadero High standout guard Troy Norris had 17 points.

The Cougars (3-0) advanced to the title game after defeating LA Southwest 72-70 on Friday and West Hills 85-69 on Saturday

WRESTLING

Four Cal Poly wrestlers place at Roadrunner Open

Brandon Rocha won the 141-pound title and three other Cal Poly grapplers placed in the top three at Saturday’s Roadrunner Open in Fresno’s Selland Arena.

Rocha pinned his final opponent, Jose Mendoza of host Cal State Bakersfield, in 1 minute, 32 seconds. To reach the finals, Rocha collected another pinfall and a major decision in the first four rounds.

Cal Poly’s Sean Dougherty had to settle for second place at 184 pounds, falling to Navy’s James Mannier 5-3 in the final. Blake Kastl (149 pounds) and Atticus Disney (285 pounds) each placed third for the Mustangs.
