United Way thanks

United Way of San Luis Obispo County, San Luis ObispoNovember 12, 2012

United Way of San Luis Obispo County would like to thank the California Conservation Corps and the Grizzly Youth Academy, Platoon 3, for their outstanding contribution and hard work at the Remnants of the Past Vintage Show this October.

United Way was chosen by the show’s creator and producer, Ms. Judy Watkins, to be the event’s charity partner. The Corps members and Grizzly cadets contributed 63 volunteers and more than 1,000 volunteer hours, providing assistance with facility logistics and porter services.

With their help, we raised more than $4,500 for the Imagination Library. Children enrolled in the program receive a new, age-appropriate book every month from birth through five years of age. The money raised will fund 18 children for five full years! That’s 18 children who will have a better chance of reading proficiently at their grade level by 4th grade, succeeding in middle school and graduating on time from high school.

United Way is fortunate to have two such wonderful service organizations as the Conservation Corps and Grizzly Academy, which are willing to collaborate in order to provide a positive impact for our community. We could not have done it without them.
