Each day, dispatchers from the seven police departments in San Luis Obispo County take dozens of calls from residents seeking help for issues ranging from minor disputes to serious crimes. The Tribune provides coverage of serious crimes every day on its news pages. Here is a look at some of the other, more unusual calls as found in recent police logs from Atascadero.
Spud thud 3:34 p.m. Oct. 28, 6400 block of Navarette Avenue
A man was shooting a potato gun and the potatoes were landing in a neighbors yard. When the neighbor went to ask the man to stop, the roommate said the man had left.
Searching for shrooms 6 p.m. Oct. 28, 9300 block of Carmelita Avenue
A resident said a man had been picking something in her yard possibly mushrooms for two hours. The man left while the resident was on the phone with dispatchers.
Blame game 8:59 p.m. Oct. 28, call to Atascadero Police Department
A woman said she was driving on Traffic Way when a group of people walked across the street and she had to slam on her brakes to avoid hitting them. One person yelled and said she damaged their property, and were saying she needed to pay for their Nintendo DS. Officers talked with both parties and determined there was no crime.
Huh? 2:17 p.m. Nov. 1, 4200 block of Dolores Avenue
A woman asked for directions several times and appeared disoriented. Officers talked to the woman, who checked out OK.
Cold showers 5:32 p.m. Nov. 1, call to Atascadero Police Department
A woman said her landlord removed the water heater from her residence.
Got his hands full 7:16 p.m. Nov. 3, 6435 Morro Road
A man with a guitar stole beer from a shop and then ran away.
