Downed power lines created a light show Sunday night in a creekbed next to the Bob Jones Trail on Ontario Road.

About 7 p.m., firefighters from County/Cal Fire Avila Valley Fire Station 62 and Pismo Beach Fire Station 63 and CHP units responded to a report of the power lines. Ontario Road was closed to through traffic while the firefighters cordoned off the area until PG&E units could arrive.

The road was closed for about an hour as the firefighters monitored the lines, but for safety reasons were unable to put personnel into the area of the lines, which were on the ground under trees. The trees did not catch fire, but the undergrowth smoldered and the lines sparked and popped.

PG&E units arrived and were able to turn off power at the pole from which the lines were hanging, and the arcing stopped.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the incident.
