College Roundup: Top seed Dome moves in on Southern California tourney

Cal Poly’s Andre Dome, the No. 1 men’s tennis seed in the Southern California Intercollegiate Championship, swept UC San Diego’s Guy Giubilato 6-3, 6-0 on Thursday to advance to today’s round of 16 in Los Angeles.

Marco Comuzzo plays today against the No. 2 seed, Dennis Novlkov of UCLA. Dome and Comuzzo also play later today in doubles against an unknown opponent from qualifying play.

Cal Poly wrestling team loses twice

Cal Poly’s wrestling team opened the season with dual losses, falling 28-11 to Drexel and 27-13 to Cal State Bakersfield in Bakersfield.

Sean Dougherty was the only Mustang to win both of his matches with a 15-0 technical fall against Drexel’s Bryan Steinlieb and a 10-2 major decision against Bakersfield’s Reuben Franklin at 184 pounds.

Connor King’s 6-4 decision over Mitch Woods at 165 poiunds, and Devon Lotito’s 9-4 decision over Clay Lutzlow at 133 pounds, were Cal Poly’s only other wins against Drexel.

JT Goodwin (197) got Cal Poly’s only pin of the day, against Bakersfield’s Frankie Hurtado. Atticus Disney (285) won a 5-2 decision against Sammy Cervantes against the Roadrunners.
