Organizers of Cambria’s annual Thanksgiving Day dinner — which feeds anybody and everybody for free — need volunteers to help decorate for the event and work before and during it. Chef Daun Putney also may need specific food donations, which could range from turkey and gravy to small decorative pumpkins and other holiday table-décor items.

This year’s festive meal is set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St. Any leftovers will be given to those in need who come to the hall about 2 p.m., bringing their own containers.

About 650 people were served last year, according to Gary White, pastor of the sponsoring Cambria Vineyard Church. Some meals were delivered to the homes of shut-ins who could not attend.

As always, the event is driven and staffed by volunteers of all ages from Vineyard Church, other congregations and throughout the community. Before donating, or to volunteer, call Putney at 927-6024.

For the most efficient coordination of this mega-meal and event, people must call ahead for work assignments or to arrange delivery or pick up, so “items don’t sit somewhere, exposed to the elements and/or defrost,” Putney said. Frozen turkeys must be donated at least three days before, so there’s plenty of time to defrost and roast them.
