World War II veteran and former Cambria Farmers Market manager Jack Gibson will be the keynote speaker at the Cambria Veterans Day observance Sunday, Nov. 11, at the flag stand at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St.

This year’s gathering begins at 1 p.m., a departure from the traditional 11 a.m. start time rooted in the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The change, organizers said, is to avoid conflicting with church service times as this year’s Veterans Day falls on a Sunday.

Gibson, who served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, was shot down over Singapore on March 2, 1945. He was captured by Japanese troops, jailed and scheduled for execution.

The program will also include The Cambria Chorale.

Afterwards, the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will serve barbecued burgers and hot dogs. For details, call Terry Farrell at 924-1814.
